Laura Beth Reynolds was killed tragically in a drunk driving accident on Halloween night 2009. A parent had purchased alcohol for a group of teenagers and actually made them pitchers of Bacardi rum and pineapple juice. To make matters worse, this parent allowed one of those teenagers, Kenneth Blake, to leave the party intoxicated. Blake ended up driving the wrong way down a 4-lane divided highway and crashing head-on into the vehicle in which Laura was a passenger. Blake's blood alcohol level was two-and-a-half times the legal limit.
This tragedy devastated the Reynolds family. However, Laura's mother and siblings are keeping her memory alive by working to prevent drunk driving tragedies from impacting other families. To spread awareness of drunk driving dangers, the Reynolds family is hosting a free 5K run/walk on May 11, 2013 at 8:00 a.m. at the Metropolitan Community College – Blue River Independence Campus.
The free event will feature activities, prizes, drawings, food/beverages, music, and more. Participants will also receive a free t-shirt.
