KTVA has reported that a Kenai, Alaska couple was killed in a multi-vehicle wreck in Nebraska.

A Kenai family is in mourning tonight after Kenai residents William and Jane Mattson were killed in a multi-vehicle collision in Nebraska, Sunday.

Nebraska State Patrol says the crash happened shortly after midnight when a Honda Accord struck a deer trying to cross the road. The Mattsons were driving in a Volvo behind that Accord. The Mattson’s car was then struck by a FreightLiner semi-truck.

Everyone involved was wearing a seatbelt, but both Mattsons were pronounced dead at the scene. The accident is under investigation.

William and Jane Mattson were 66 and 63 years old.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Mattson family and the community of Kenai, Alaska. It is unclear from the report if the Mattson family suffered their injuries when their vehicle struck the Accord or when they were struck by the semi truck behind them. However, it is mostly likely that the semi truck collision caused most of the damage.

Big rig truck drivers must be extra cautious because of the enormous size, weight and force of their vehicles. Eighteen wheeler accidents account for a disproportionate number of crashes, injuries and deaths.
