Toyota Finally Hands Over Source Code In Acceleration Lawsuits

Comments Off

The Los Angeles Times has reported that Toyota has finally agreed to turn over the source code for its electronic throttle controls more than a year after recalling more than 10 million vehicles because of sudden unintended acceleration.

Until now, Toyota has refused to turn over the source code and had been hiding behind numerous redactions both in lawsuits and in the NHTSA / NASA investigations.

The source code is the underlying program that runs the software on a vehicle’s onboard computer system. In the sudden-acceleration cases, attorneys say they will be closing looking at the code that controls the vehicles’ electronic throttle.

Access to the electronic throttle source code is a key victory for attorneys representing Toyota sudden acceleration plaintiffs.
