Toyota Recalls 1.1 Million Vehicles For Faulty Electronic Engine Control Units

Comments Off

Various sources have reported that Toyota will recall more than 1.1 million Toyota Corolla and Toyota Matrix vehicles (model years 2005-2008) because of problems with the electronic control units for the engines. Toyota says the Engine Control Module circuit board can crack, causing "harsh shifting" and may prevent the engine from starting. In some cases, the engine can stop while the vehicle is being driven.

Toyota’s latest recall comes as Toyota remains under scrutiny stemming from its unintended acceleration. Investigators continue to probe whether faulty electronics may be partially to blame for Toyota’s acceleration problem that led to the recall of more than 10 million vehicles worldwide. Independent safety experts have said electronics are a likely culprit, but Toyota continues to insist that electronics played no role in the sudden acceleration defect.
