More coverage of this rollover accident:

Reports of the Schimmel accident include a tell-tale sign of a dangerous product defect: vastly different injuries for occupants of the same vehicle. The reports have said that Schimmel’s son was uninjured, his daughter received some injuries and is expected to recover, but that Schimmel was seriously injured and remains in "very serious" condition.

Many car manufacturers have serious issues when it comes to rollover safety. For example, the Ford Explorer has a long history of rollover problems. The PBS news and information series, Frontline, has also documented SUV rollover dangers. Certain vehicles are more prone to rollover dangers because of design flaws that include a high center of gravity (which creates instability that can cause a rollover) and weak roof support structures that permit the roof to "cave in" and crush occupants. Often, the owners and occupants of the vehicle are never aware of the potential danger and there is very little the driver can do to prevent the rollover accident.
