2013 Ford Escape Recall: Ford Warns Owners, Stop Driving This Vehicle

Comments Off

Img Source: Detroit Free PressFord Motor Company has recalled almost twelve thousand 2013 Ford Escape SUVs because of fuel line defects that can cause fire. 11,500 Ford Escapes with the 1.6 liter EcoBoost engines contain a batch of fuel lines that were damaged on a conveyor line at a supplier's plant. The defective fuel lines were installed and can split, leak fuel, and cause a fire.

Ford has advised owners to not drive their vehicle and to contact their dealer, who will provide a loaner vehicle and pick up the Escape for repair. The repair includes removing the defective fuel line and replacing it with a new, non-defective fuel line. Ford estimates the repair will take less than an hour.

This is the second recall of the 2013 Ford Escape and third recall for Escapes overall. 2013 Ford Escapes were previously recalled because of tight clearances around the gas and brake pedals, potentially reducing braking time if a driver's foot caught the side of the brake pedal.

Ford's media release to owners has been called an "unusual step for Ford". Ford is one of the few car makers that typically do not issue press releases about its recalls. Instead, Ford usually only responds to questions after its recalls were posted on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) web site.
